For over 40 years,

…the Christian Service Center has lovingly supported the residents of Columbia County during times of need. From the very beginning, our mission has been rooted in compassion and care. Our original home stood at the corner of Columbia Avenue and Veterans Street. (picture below shows original location of the Center).

Founded in 1982 as an outreach ministry of the Body of Christ, the Center was established by seven local churches united in a shared calling—to create a welcoming place where families facing hardship could find help, hope, and support. By coming together, these churches made it possible to offer coordinated assistance without duplication, ensuring that every person received thoughtful and meaningful care.

Today, the Christian Service Center continues to serve from our current location at Washington Avenue and Hilton Avenue. Though the address has changed, our heart remains the same: to serve the community and local churches with love and faithfulness.

When someone reaches out for help, we meet with them one-on-one to understand their unique circumstances and offer guidance toward the most helpful solutions. Our approach is inspired by the way Jesus cared for others—with love first. We seek to address both physical and spiritual needs, always offering prayer and the gift of a Bible to those who are open to it. For those interested, we also share the message of salvation, trusting the Holy Spirit to work in each individual’s life.

We provide assistance with food, clothing, household items, medications, and partial help with utility bills. Our resale gift shop, open two days a week, helps support our food pantry through its proceeds. Throughout the year, we host special events to further care for our neighbors—offering Christmas gifts and food baskets, back-to-school shoes for children, and our annual garage sale to support ongoing services.

The Center works hand-in-hand with churches of all denominations and partners with other local service organizations. Together, we strive to be a light in the community—a place where people are seen, heard, and cared for with dignity and compassion.
